This engaging learning adventure is one of the best we've seen to date. Kids go off on a journey to the Numerian Rain Forest with two onscreen characters, Santiago and Joni. Joni's Uncle Horace has been mysteriously kidnapped by Mathra, a flying creature who's terrorizing the forest. The creature is supposedly living in a lost city where it keeps its prisoners. To gain entry to the city's locked gates, Santiago and Joni must find the two halves of a key. In order to complete the adventure, kids play approximately 20 activities, each of which is necessary to progress through the forest's paths and collect clues. The activities are all very well designed and are nicely focused on "real" applications of math and reading. Kids have to, for instance, balance a log on a bridge by matching sums on either end. In another activity, they measure the perimeter of a pit to help rope it off. In yet another game, they help birds fly to their appropriate locations by reading map legends. There are many excellent logic and problem-solving activities. Kids also have to add, subtract and multiply numbers to unveil clues. Teachers and parents will appreciate the readily available progress reports and the massive amount of content. In fact, for some of our testers, the game play and content was so extensive that they became impatient for the game's conclusion. Additionally, while specific help for problems was available, kids didn't always discover its existence. On the whole, though, this is an excellent program with plenty of cleverly designed activities providing valuable math, reading and logic practice.
